THERAPY SERVICES
Beginning therapy for the first time, or with a new therapist, can be an intimidating step, but we are here to help ease you in to the process of finding your way in your healing journey. There are many benefits to therapy but sometimes it can be hard to get started and ask for help along the way. At Rising Lotus Therapy, Leslie uses multiple methods when working with her clients to explore what feels right for her individual clients needs. There is never a one-size-fits-all approach or method to a therapeutic relationship, so when we begin our work together you will know it’s tailored for what your needs are.
You are welcome to explore and learn more about the methods used with some of my clients, but you do not have to have this knowledge prior to any sessions, this is merely showing some of the options available.
APPLYING METHODS
No individual fits into a box and no one method solves all life’s problems, but having multiple areas of method expertise and many tools available can help me create multiple pathways on your healing journey. Some of the methods most commonly used in my work with my clients are.
Somatic Methods
Somatic methods help us get into tune with our nervous system and with our bodies. Somatic methods are the core of feeling the healing work in our bodies and not just intellectualizing it in our minds.
This is often used in conjunction with other methods of therapy as well, and is a great tool to help uncover our healing.
EMDR
EMDR is a mental health therapy method that stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. This technique’s role is in treating complex trauma or PTSD, and is useful for processing other traumatic memories as well. EMDR therapy was developed to help facilitate the healing of traumatic memories that are stored in our brains and causing distress.
Complex Trauma
Our trauma is oftentimes layered and multi-faceted. No single event defines who we are, and no one traumatic experience should rob us of the ability to heal and move forward in life. A multi-faceted approach to understanding our trauma is critical in the ability to untangle the web of our past experiences, look at them one by one, and see how they relate to each other and impact our experience of life. We must tackle complex trauma with custom solutions.
BENEFITS OF THERAPY
Mental Clarity
When we hold on to unprocessed trauma and our grief, it often clouds our thoughts and creates a sense of brain fog, distraction, or anxiety. Using different therapeutic tools and techniques we can begin to uncover some of the thoughts clouding our mind. Sometimes even the act of starting the process brings a new sense of clarity and frees up our thoughts – knowing that we are taking steps towards our healing even if we aren’t there yet.
Sense of Direction
It can be a daunting task to set out to heal parts of ourselves we’ve long avoided. Sometimes we don’t know where to begin or if we are heading down a path that will ultimately be helpful in the long run. Having a therapist who has experience helping people who have experienced what you have, adds to your sense of confidence that you are heading in the right direction. Having this sense of direction can help you move forward knowing you are taking steps in a direction that will be helpful for you.
Creating Space
Giving yourself the structure of therapy can be hugely beneficial. Oftentimes clients come to me knowing what they need to do, but not able to implement it on their own. Adding structure with therapy sessions and having accountability, guidance, and someone to talk with about your progress is a way to create space for your healing.
Holistic Approach
With all of my clients, we will employ different techniques, tools, and approaches to support you in your journey. There are many methods and tools available and we will take a holistic approach in ensuring that we are creating a plan custom to your situation.
